A Family-Focused Kitchen, Utility & Boot Room

At Shaker&May, we understand that every home is unique, and so are the people who live in it. For this project, our clients—a busy family—needed a kitchen, utility, and boot room that would work seamlessly with their lifestyle while also complementing the beauty of their newly extended home.

The Heart of the Home

The kitchen was designed as the centrepiece of the family’s new glazed extension, where natural light floods the space and every angle opens up to beautiful views of the garden and surrounding landscape. We carefully designed the cabinetry layout to maximise this connection, ensuring that the kitchen feels both uplifting and practical. The result is a warm, welcoming space where the family can cook, gather, and enjoy the views together.

Unit Colours
• Main Outer Units: Zoffany – Paris Grey
• Island: Little Greene – Obsidian

This elegant palette creates a timeless balance of softness and depth, with the striking island acting as a central focal point in the glazed extension.

PROJECT DETAILS

A Utility Room for Busy Wash Days

Behind the kitchen, the utility room was planned with function and efficiency in mind. With plenty of storage, durable surfaces, and dedicated laundry facilities, it has been designed to handle the demands of busy wash days with ease. The cabinetry in this space was finished in Little Greene – Tea With Florence, bringing a warm, subtle tone that complements its practical purpose while still feeling inviting.

A Boot Room with Style and Purpose

The boot room completes the design, offering a stylish yet hardworking space for everyday comings and goings. With tailored storage for jackets, wellies, sports equipment, and general household items, it helps keep the main living areas clutter-free. The use of Little Greene – Tea With Florence continues into this space, creating a sense of flow and consistency while keeping the aesthetic soft and understated.

Designed Around Real Life

Every element of this project was created to reflect the clients’ lifestyle: a kitchen that forms the heart of the home, a utility that makes light work of daily routines, and a boot room that keeps the family organised in style. Together, these spaces deliver a home that is both functional and beautiful, perfectly suited to the rhythm of busy family life.

This project shows how thoughtful design, colour, and craftsmanship can transform the way a family lives in their home—bringing together beauty, practicality, and personalisation.
