This kitchen was designed around our client’s passion for cooking, with every element considered to make the space work beautifully for a keen chef, while still being a sociable and inviting space for entertaining.
The starting point was their dream 1800mm pink Lacanche range cooker. Rather than hiding it away against a wall, the cooker became the centrepiece of the island, allowing the chef to cook facing their guests and remain part of the conversation.
The idea was inspired by a recent trip to Japan, where the clients enjoyed the experience of teppanyaki-style cooking, sitting opposite the chef and watching the food being prepared. We brought this same sense of theatre into the kitchen with a sunken seating area opposite the range, making cooking part of the social experience.
With a chef at the heart of the brief, functionality was just as important as the overall aesthetic. The kitchen incorporates a solid oak butcher’s block, bespoke spice dividers, dedicated knife storage, chopping board inserts and pull-out trays, ensuring everything needed is close at hand. Knock-to-open Liebherr fridge and freezer appliances provide additional storage and practicality for a busy kitchen.
The design extends into entertaining, with a bespoke bar area featuring integrated LED lighting and an antique mirror back panel, creating a softer, more atmospheric space for evenings with guests.
The result is a kitchen that puts the chef, the cooking and the people around them at the heart of the design.
